Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Cougars posted an 85-47 win over Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday at the Arena of Southwell Complex. The victory marked the 50th career win for head coach
Matt Moore.
Lauren Friedrich recorded her first career double-double with 19 points and a career-best 15 rebounds, while
Mya Miller (20),
Lexi Miller (17) and
Emma Daniels (16) also scored in double figures for the Cougars.
Columbia shot 44.4 percent (32-of-72) from the field in the win, including 15-of-32 from three-point range. The Cougars dominated the glass (59-26) and points off turnovers (15-5).
Columbia won its 11th-straight game to improve to 22-1 and 13-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while Harris-Stowe fell to 5-14 and 4-9 in the AMC.
Friedrich had the hot hand early in the contest, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc as the Cougars led 19-10 after one quarter of play. Columbia closed the period on an 11-4 run while limiting Harris-Stowe to just two field goals over the final 7:03.
Lexi Miller's second three-pointer of the game pushed the lead into double figures at 22-12.
Mya Miller then scored six points during a 9-0 run as the advantage grew to 31-15 with 6:18 remaining before halftime.
Columbia built a commanding 45-24 lead at the break as Friedrich and
Mya Miller each had 12 points, while Daniels added 11 off the bench on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. The Cougars shot 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the field and knocked down 9-of-14 from three-point range.
Lexi Miller knocked down three shots from beyond the arc in the opening 2:38 of the third quarter as the lead grew to 56-29. A bucket by
Lexi Rubel later doubled up the score at 58-29 with 5:05 left in the period. Miller poured in nine points in the quarter as Columbia extended its advantage to 66-38.
The Cougars went on an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter to put the game away at 74-40.
J'Lessa Jordan (17 points) and Alivia Montgomery (10) scored in double figures for Harris-Stowe, which was limited to 31.7 percent (19-of-60) shooting from the field in the loss.
The Cougars host UHSP on Tuesday, February 10 at 5:30 p.m.
NOTES: Columbia has won 19-straight meetings against Harris-Stowe and leads the all-time series 50-5 … The Cougars have hit 10 or more threes 15 times this season.
