Lacrosse Earns Ranked Win Over #8 Webber International

COLUMBIA, MO - Brock Pleis delivered a five-goal, one-assist performance to lead Columbia College men's lacrosse past #8 Webber International University 10-9 Monday afternoon, giving the Cougars a marquee win and a 3-1 record on the young season. His three unanswered goals in the third quarter proved to be the turning point, erasing a 5-5 tie and putting Columbia in the driver's seat against one of the nation's top programs.

The Warriors jumped out to a 4-2 first-quarter lead behind a pair of goals from Jeremiah Loo before Columbia settled in. Goals from William Rusk and Nico Andrews pulled the Cougars within one at halftime.

Pleis scored three straight to push Columbia's lead to 7-5 in the third, and though Webber clawed back to tie it at 9-9 with just over three minutes left in the fourth, Andrews answered with the game-winner at 1:37. Goalkeeper Bryce Peltier — who finished with eight saves — held firm in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Columbia outshot Webber 38-32 and held a 23-17 edge in shots on goal. Despite losing the face-off battle 15-8, the Cougars more than compensated on the ground, winning 30 ground balls to Webber's 28 and showing the defensive grit needed to knock off a ranked opponent.
