COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Columbia College men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-10 decision to Tennessee Wesleyan University Thursday afternoon at R. Marvin Owens Field. The Cougars move to 3-2 on the season.
Tennessee Wesleyan wasted no time, scoring five first-quarter goals to Columbia's three. The Cougars showed some fight late in the opening period, with Brock Pleis scoring twice and Jack McDowell adding one, but the Bulldogs held a 5-3 advantage heading into the second.
The second quarter was more of the same, as Tennessee Wesleyan outscored Columbia 3-2 to push the lead to 8-5. Adam Spriggs and Kai Garriock found the back of the net for the Cougars, but TWU's Colton Winsick and Kennedy Moore kept the pressure on.
Columbia was held scoreless in the third quarter while Tennessee Wesleyan added two more goals to extend the lead to 10-5 heading into the final period.
The Cougars responded with their best quarter of the day, scoring five fourth-quarter goals to make it interesting. William Rusk scored twice, while McDowell, Nico Andrews, and Drake Morrissey all tallied, but Tennessee Wesleyan answered with four of their own to secure the 14-10 final.
McDowell led the Cougars with two goals and two assists, while goalie Bryce Peltier made 17 saves.
Columbia returns to action on the road against Missouri Baptist University on April 1st at 7:00 p.m.
