COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Columbia College softball team split a doubleheader against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (Mo.) on Saturday at home, dropping game one by a score of 4-1 before bouncing back to win game two, 5-1. The Cougars move to 13-11 overall and 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.
Game One: UHSP def. CC, 4-1
- UHSP jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning, as Sydney Hinojosa drove in a run and a wild pitch brought home another.
- Taryn Hagardt got one back for Columbia in the bottom half, singling in Tasia Green to make it 2-1.
- The Eutectics added a run in the fifth and another in the seventh to secure the 4-1 final.
- Ella Schouten took the loss in the circle, striking out 14 batters in a complete game.
- Green led the Cougars at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Game Two: CC def. UHSP, 5-1
- The Cougars saw their bats come alive in game two, scoring all five runs in the sixth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit.
- Cassidy Avery delivered, tripling to right field to drive in three runs and put Columbia on top for good.
- Kylee Page followed with an RBI single to score Avery, and Sophia Angel added another RBI triple to cap the five-run frame.
- Kennedy Jensen earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just one run on eight hits.
- Avery finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Rosalie Schneider went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and Eleanor Schudel added two hits as well.
Columbia returns to action tomorrow facing Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.) in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
