Cougars Sweep Mustangs on Breast Cancer Awareness Day

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, Columbia College baseball made a statement on and off the field Friday, sweeping Central Baptist College (Ark.) with a 2-1 victory and a 10-0 blowout to improve to 24-9-1 overall and 14-2-1 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.

In Game one, Kolten Payne was dominant on the mound, working 6.1 innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out five to improve to 6-1 on the season. Joey Marcinkiewicz provided the difference-maker with a solo home run in the fourth inning, while Hunter Shoulta drove in the tying run in the first. Eric Fields closed it out with two outs in the seventh to earn his second save of the year.

Game two was all Cougars from the start. Parker Anderson threw a complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits and fanning six without allowing a run to move to 6-2. Columbia's offense exploded for 17 hits, with Dylan Carlton leading the charge by going 2-for-5 with two triples and three RBI. Marcinkiewicz added three more hits and two RBI, and Zac Fruend reached base four times. The Cougars plated runs in five of seven innings and closed things out with a three-run seventh.
