COLUMBIA, Mo. – Second-half goals from Georgia Pardalos and Macie Vincent lifted No. 24 Columbia College to a 2-0 win over No. 18 Central Methodist on Wednesday at Marvin Owens Field, keeping the Cougars unbeaten to start the season. Columbia moves to 2-0 on the season with the win.
Columbia and Central Methodist (1-1) played a scoreless first half, with Cougar keeper Charlie Williams turning away shots from Sara Garcia and Maren Zubillaga to keep the match level. Columbia carried a 4-2 shot advantage into the break but couldn't find the breakthrough, with Georgia Pardalos and Macie Vincent both denied by Eagles goalkeeper Amber Bennett.
The deadlock broke in the 58th minute when Pardalos collected the ball just inside the 18-yard box and buried it straight on for an unassisted goal, her second of the season. Columbia struck again five minutes later, as Vincent finished from 15 yards out off a leading pass from Ella Bredensteiner to make it 2-0 in the 62nd minute, also her second goal of the season.
Central Methodist pushed for a response down the stretch, getting shots from Jenna Brouwer in the closing minutes, but Williams held firm to close out the shutout, finishing with five saves. Bennett made three saves in the loss for the Eagles.
