Men's Soccer Earns First Win Behind Sutton's Two-Goal Game

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Columbia College men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win over Missouri Valley University today at R. Marvin Owens Field, powered by a two-goal performance from Josh Sutton that tied his career high and improved the team to 1-1-0 on the season.

Columbia struck first in the ninth minute when Sutton buried his opening goal off an assist from Cooper Allen and the team, giving the home side an early 1-0 lead.

After the half, Missouri Valley answered quickly, with Fernando De Ornelas leveling the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute on an unassisted finish. Columbia responded as Grant Buer restored the lead in the 65th minute with an unassisted goal off a corner kick sequence, and Sutton put the finishing touch on the win in the 85th minute, converting an assist from Drew Schlimme. This deemed Sutton's second goal of the day — tying his career high.
