SEWARD, Neb. – The Columbia College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the road Friday, falling to No. 3 Concordia in four sets before bouncing back to beat MidAmerica Nazarene, also in four, at Friedrich Arena. Columbia sits at 6-2 on the season following the day's action.
In the opener, Columbia dropped a back-and-forth battle to Concordia, 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18. The Cougars rallied from an early deficit in each of the first two sets and forced a fourth after a strong third-set showing, but couldn't complete the comeback against the nationally ranked Bulldogs. Viola Giangreco led the attack with nine kills, while Rowan Carr and Isabella Kincaid each added five. Hannah Vogt finished with 14 assists while Alexa Olson contributed 11, and Taylor Johnson paced the back row with 17 digs.
Columbia responded in game two, taking down MidAmerica Nazarene, 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17. The Cougars were dominant at the net, hitting .280 as a team while holding the Pioneers to a .063 clip. Giangreco and Kincaid shared the load offensively with 11 kills apiece, Vogt dished a match-high 21 assists, and Johnson turned in 19 digs to anchor the defense.
