Cougars Draw Against Vikings

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The No. 24-ranked Columbia College women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against Missouri Valley University on Tuesday at R. Marvin Owens Field, with the Cougars twice erasing a deficit before Missouri Valley leveled the score late in the second half.

The Vikings struck first in the sixth minute when Jade Derks scored off an assist from Jaqueline Koki. Columbia answered in the 17th minute as Ella Bredensteiner buried a feed from Georgia Pardalos to tie the game at 1-1. Bredensteiner struck again in the 38th minute, this time off an assist from Madison Lieberoff, to put the Cougars ahead 2-1 heading into halftime. Missouri Valley responded in the 68th minute when Lowa Wennerströem scored unassisted to make it 2-2, a score that held for the remainder of the match.

Bredensteiner finished with two goals to lead all scorers, while Pardalos and Lieberoff each recorded an assist for Columbia. Macie Vincent led the Cougars with four shots on goal. Columbia outshot Missouri Valley 15-9 for the match, and goalkeeper Charlie Williams made two saves in net. Lola Martinez Benitez turned away four shots for Missouri Valley.

The draw leaves Columbia unbeaten at 3-0-1 on the season, while Missouri Valley fell to 0-1-1.

The Cougars are back in action for a road match up against No. 12-ranked Grace College (Ind.) on Sept. 5th. Kick off is set for 10:00 a.m.
