Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars Blank USAO, 1-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Columbia College men's soccer edged (RV) University of Science and Arts (Okla.) 1-0 on Monday at R. Marvin Owens Field, as Parker Rainwater's early goal held up behind a shutout effort in goal.

Rainwater opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing off a feed from Joshua Peterson for his third goal of the season and the eventual game-winner. Columbia (5-1-0) would not find the net again, but it didn't need to, as the Cougars controlled the match from there.

Columbia out-shot Science and Arts 14-7 on the afternoon, including a 6-3 edge in the first half, and held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes alone.

Ricardo Fischbach earned the win in goal, making two saves across the full 90 minutes to preserve the clean sheet. Jonas Haider stopped three shots for Science and Arts before giving way to Jack Sexton at halftime, who added three saves of his own.

Science and Arts pushed in the second half but couldn't solve the Columbia defense, managing four shots after the break compared to eight for the Cougars.

With the win, Columbia improves to 5-1-0 on the season and extends its winning streak to five straight, while Science and Arts falls to 3-2-3.

The Cougars hit the road next, traveling to face No. 13 John Brown University on Sept. 19 at 5:00 p.m. in Siloam Springs, Ark.
