SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — The No. 21-ranked Columbia College women's soccer team earned a point on the road Saturday, playing to a 0-0 draw with No. 14 John Brown University at Alumni Field.
John Brown (4-1-2) held a 19-7 edge in shots, including 10-4 in the first half, but Columbia (5-1-3) limited the Golden Eagles to six shots on goal and kept them off the scoreboard.
The Cougars' best first-half look came in the 25th minute, when Ella Bredensteiner put a shot on goal that was saved by John Brown goalkeeper Ansley Fuchs. Georgia Pardalos and Grace Moresi also got shots off before the break, and the game remained scoreless at halftime.
Columbia had its strongest stretch early in the second half, earning three corner kicks in the first eight minutes. In the 53rd minute, Rowyn Blanke's shot was blocked, and seconds later Ava Lunders' attempt hit the crossbar. Pardalos followed with another shot that was blocked.
John Brown pressed late, forcing a corner kick and a series of shots in the final two minutes, but the Cougars stayed organized and preserved the shutout. Charlie Williams finished with six saves, and Fuchs went the distance in goal for the Golden Eagles.
With the draw, Columbia moves to 5-1-3 on the season and remains unbeaten in four matches. It was the Cougars' fourth shutout of the year, while John Brown falls to 4-1-2.
The Cougars return home next to host Dakota State on Sept. 24 at 4:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
