COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Columbia College volleyball team stayed perfect in American Midwest Conference play Saturday, sweeping Williams Baptist 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 at the Arena of Southwell Complex. The Cougars (11-5, 3-0 AMC) are now the last unbeaten team in the AMC, while the Eagles fell to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in league play. The win also improved Columbia to 41-0 all-time against Williams Baptist.
Columbia returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 23, when it hosts Mission University in an AMC match at 6 p.m. at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
Isabella Kincaid turned in a standout performance, posting a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs. She was flawless at the net, finishing with zero attack errors on 22 swings for a .455 hitting percentage. Kincaid also added an ace, a solo block and three block assists.
Columbia set the tone early in the opening set, building a 12-6 lead and stretching it to as many as 10 points at 19-9. Viola Giangreco recorded the final two kills of the 25-18 set, both off Alexa Olson sets.
The Eagles made it a match in the second set, leading by as many as four points (12-8) and holding a 16-13 advantage. Columbia answered with a 5-0 run to go up 18-16 and never trailed again, closing out the 25-20 win on a Samira Baltazar kill.
In the third set, the Cougars broke a 12-12 tie with a 6-0 run to open an 18-12 lead. Service aces from Taylor Johnson and Kincaid down the stretch kept the Eagles at bay, and Olson finished the match with a kill for the 25-18 win.
As a team, Columbia hit .202 with 10 blocks and nine service aces. Hannah Vogt dished out 16 assists and Olson added 12, while Baltazar (nine kills) and Giangreco (seven kills) gave the Cougars additional firepower.
