COLUMBIA, Mo. — Columbia College men's soccer improved to 6-1-1 with a 2-1 win over Westminster College (Mo.) Tuesday evening at R. Marvin Owens Field.
Westminster struck first, with Lucas Sottile opening the scoring in the 13th minute. Columbia answered in the 23rd minute when Charlie Lafata buried his first goal of the season off an assist from Faraj Shee, leveling the match at 1-1 heading into the break.
The Cougars found the go-ahead goal late, as Shee scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 87th minute, assisted by Joshua Peterson, to secure the win.
Columbia outshot Westminster 24-5 on the night and won the corner-kick battle 6-2, with goalkeeper Ricardo Fischbach making two saves to backstop the victory. Both sides picked up a pair of yellow cards late — Columbia's team and Bodie Rollins, Westminster's Khamani Matallah and Luke Holland.
The Cougars return to action as they host Maharisi International University (Iowa) on Sept. 26 on senior day. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
