Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's soccer team scored an impressive 7-1 win over conference rival Park (Mo.) University at home on Thursday night, marking their sixth consecutive victory dating back to September 26
th. With the win, Columbia improves to 11-2-1 (8-1-0 AMC) on the year and the Cougars also move into first place in the American Midwest Conference standings. The loss drops the Pirates to 7-6 overall and 7-1 in league play.
Columbia missed a handful of scoring opportunities early on in the first half before
Kelly Ross got the scoring started with a goal in the 27
th minute.
Stephanie Hale put the Cougars up 2-0 with her 12
th goal of the season less than five minutes later and
Tori Magaletta added another score before the halftime break for a 3-0 Columbia lead.
Rylee Bruhn assisted on all three goals in the period as the Cougars outshot Park 15-1. Coming out of the halftime break, Ross added her second goal of the contest in the 58
th minute. Hale would follow with a pair of goals in the 68
th minute to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead on her first hat trick of the year. The Pirates would avoid the shutout as Schnell Briscoe scored in the 71
st minute, but Columbia answered right back with a goal by
Carlie Howe to cap off the blowout victory.
The Cougars outshot Park 7-4 over the final 45 minutes to finish with a 22-5 shot advantage on the night.
Erica Ramirez had two saves in the match to pick up her eighth win of the season.
Columbia will be back in action next week on Wednesday, October 23
rd when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville in their final home game of the 2013 regular season. The Cougars will honor six seniors prior to the 4:30 p.m. game time at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
