Columbia women shut out Hannibal to claim AMC regular season championship

Box Score Hannibal, Mo. - The Cougar women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-0 shutout victory at American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday afternoon. Columbia improves to 13-2-1 and 9-1 in league play on the year with the win, while also clinching the AMC regular season championship and home-field advantage throughout the AMC Postseason Tournament.

The Cougars got on the board just over ten minutes into the first half as MacKenzie Knepper netted her 14th goal of the season. Tori Magaletta made it 2-0 in favor of Columbia with a score in the 35th minute and the Cougars took the two-goal advantage into the halftime break. Lauren Beishir and Stephanie Hale each added a goal during the final period and the Columbia defense limited the Trojans to just five shots for the game on their way to their league-leading 11th shutout of the year.

Erica Ramirez posted two saves on the day to pick up the win in goal for the Cougars.

The AMC Tournament quarterfinals will kick off on Friday, November 8th. Columbia, the No. 1 seed, will host No. 8 seed Benedictine University-Springfield at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium. Visit www.amcsportsonline.com for the full tournament bracket and schedule.
