Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over conference opponent William Woods (Mo.) University on Tuesday night. Columbia improves to 9-2-1 and 6-1 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with the win, their eighth shutout of the 2013 campaign. The Owls drop to 5-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
MacKenzie Knepper got behind William Woods defense and put the Cougars on the board in the opening period with a goal in the eighth minute. Columbia maintained the 1-0 advantage over the remainder of the first half while outshooting the Owls 12-2, with both squads registering two shots on goal. After 21 minutes of scoreless play to begin the second period,
Rylee Bruhn broke free to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the 69
th minute. Columbia would put the game away in the 84
th minute as
Kelly Ross headed in a goal to complete the scoring.
Columbia outshot William Woods 19-10 for the game, with the Cougars converting 3 of 7 shots on goal.
Erica Ramirez posted had four saves on the night and earned the shutout win in goal.
Columbia will wrap up play this week with a matchup against Lyon (Ark.) College (8-4, 3-3 AMC) on Saturday, October 12
th. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
