Cougar women blow out Harris-Stowe 8-0

Box Score St. Louis, Mo. - The Columbia women's soccer team posted an 8-0 shutout victory over conference foe Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University on the road this afternoon. With the win, the Cougars improve to 5-1-1 overall and 2-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play.

Senior Stephanie Hale got the scoring started for Columbia with a goal in the fifth minute of the first period. Kelli Westhues contributed the assist on the opening score. Junior MacKenzie Knepper put the Cougars up 2-0 in the 13th minute with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Columbia would take a 3-0 lead at the halftime break following a goal by Lauren Beishir with just over three minutes to play in the period.

The Cougars notched a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the second half as freshman Taylor Hagenhoff found the back of the net in the 47th minute, followed by Hale's second goal of the contest in the 49th minute. Freshman Carlie Howe picked up her third goal of the year in the 55th minute to make it 6-0 in favor of Columbia. Taylor Goddard and Perla Hernandez each scored their first goals of the campaign in the 67th and 72nd minutes respectively to cap off the shutout for the Cougars.

Freshman Flavia Rosado picked up the shutout in goal for Columbia in her first start of the season. Westhues and Hale led the Cougars with two assists each in the contest.

Columbia will take to the field again on Tuesday, September 24th for a conference matchup with Missouri Baptist University. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
