Box Score Parkville, Mo. – The Columbia College women's soccer team's comeback attempt fell short as the Cougars suffered a 3-2 loss to Park University tonight in Parkville, Mo. Columbia trailed 2-0 in the first half and 3-1 in the second half but, could not manage the equalizer. The Pirates hand the Cougars their first conference loss since Sept. 24
th, 2013. Columbia falls to 8-5-1 on the year and 8-1-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play with the defeat, while the Pirates improve to 9-5-0 and 7-1-0 in league play.
The Pirates gained a 2-0 advantage in the first period in a span of five minutes as Parks' Shnell Briscoe found the back of the net in the 27
th and 32
nd minute of play.
Freshman
Laurie Frew put the Cougars within 2-1 with a score of her own in the 65
th minute after connecting with
Carlie Howe.
Park again gained a two-goal advantage, 3-1, with another goal less than four minutes later by Gabi Severns in the 69
th minute.
However, Columbia responded once again with its second tally of the game in the 84th minute after
Kelly Ross scored her team leading ninth goal of the season.
Columbia continued to press for an equalizer in the remaining six minutes of the match, but was unable to succeed.
Columbia outshot Park 18-13 for the game, with the Cougars converting 2 of 11 shots on goal.
Flavia Rosado posted five saves on the night.
The Cougars return home and host AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday, October 25
th. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
