Cougars are AMC Co-Regular Season Champions

Box Score Batesville, Ark. – This afternoon the Columbia College women's soccer team traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on Lyon (Ark.) College in their final regular season game of the year. The Cougars finished the season on a high note as they were able to defeat the Scots by a score of 8-0 and improve their record to 15-1-2 heading into postseason play. With the win tonight, the Cougars clinched their spot as Co-Regular Season Champions in the AMC after going 11-1 in conference play. This marks the fourth season in a row that Columbia College has been regular season champions.

The Cougars came out and dominated the Scots from the opening whistle. They created several scoring opportunities in the first few minutes of the game but were unable to capitalize on their chances until Kelsey Mirts found the back of the net for the ninth time this season in the 18th minute to put the Cougars ahead 1-0. Tiffany Weaver had her sixth goal of the season just five minutes later when she was able to slip the ball past the Scots keeper to put Columbia College ahead 2-0. The Cougars continued to apply pressure to the Scots defense and picked up one final goal in the half when Kelsey Mirts finished off a pass from Yuko Shinomiya to give Columbia College a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Cougars did not take their foot off the gas pedal in the second half and it took them just three minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead in the game. Katie Cook had the goal for Columbia College off of an assist from Kelsey Mirts for her fifth of the season. Mirts was back at it again a few minutes later when she finished off an unassisted goal to complete her hat trick. The Cougars picked up three more goals in the game with Emma Laney scoring her third goal of the season, Amy Bolton picking up her fourth of the season, and Carlie Howe scoring her third goal of the year to wrap up the Cougars 8-0 win. Columbia College outshot Lyon College 34-3 in the game and had 21 shots on target.

Flavia Rosado and Madison Boyken split time in goal for the Cougars tonight recording two saves between the two of them. This was Columbia Colleges 15th shutout of the season which ranks first in the NAIA.

The Cougars will host an American Midwest Conference quarterfinal match up on Friday, November 4th at 6 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.  A complete bracket and pairings will be released later this weekend.
