Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's soccer team will continue their fantastic season on Thursday when they travel to Parkville, Missouri, to take on Park University in the AMC Championship Final. The Cougars have been playing great soccer as of late and after defeating Lyon (Ark.) College and Missouri Baptist University in their previous two matches, Columbia College has moved up one spot in the rankings to 13
th in the NAIA.
The AMC Championship Final is set to be a good one as both Columbia College and Park University finished the season as Co-Champions of the AMC. In their previous matchup, the Pirates were able to defeat the Cougars by a final score of 2-1 to hand them their first and only loss of the season. The game was a close one as all three goals were scored in the first 30 minutes of the game. The Pirates got on the board first scoring in the 12
th minute of the game but Columbia College bounced back quickly scoring just three minutes later to tie the game. Park University scored the final goal of the match in the 26
th minute and played a defensive game the rest of the match as the Cougars pressed the Pirates relentlessly but were unable to tie the game.
Columbia College has been nothing short of spectacular since as they are currently riding a nine game winning streak. They have scored 46 goals in those nine games while not allowing their opponents to find the back of the net a single time.
Flavia Rosado has been the key for the Cougars success as she ranks second in the NAIA in goals against per game with a 0.280 average while leading Columbia College to an NAIA best 17 shutouts.
The Pirates come into this match riding a five game winning streak where they have outscored their opponents 23-6 including a 3-2 double overtime victory against Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in their final regular season game. Park University is led by Isabel Sullivan and Emily Key who have led this offensive juggernaut all season long. Key is currently sitting on an NAIA leading 70 points this season while Sullivan has found her teammates 15 times to lead the NAIA in assists.
The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 10
th.
