Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the sixth ranked Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action taking on Central Christian College of the Bible (Mo.) in a non-conference matchup. The Cougars defeated the Saints by a final score of 91-46 and improved to 4-0 on the season.
In the first half of the game, the Cougars looked to carry their momentum from last nights close victory over Missouri Valley College into tonight's game against the Saints. They got off to a hot start offensively in the game nailing four three point shots in the first five minutes of the half including two from
Nic Reynolds to jump out to a 16-10 lead.
The Cougars played great defense in the first half forcing the Saints to turn the ball over four times while blocking three of their shots. They got hot offensively at the end of the half and went on a 17-8 run in the last four minutes to take a 47-26 lead into halftime. The Cougars were led by
Jackson Dubinski who had 11 points in the half.
Columbia College was able to continue their run to open the second half outscoring the Saints 15-4 in the first five minutes. Central Christian College fought hard to get back into the game but the damage was already done as the Cougars solidified their victory. Columbia College was lights out in the second half from the three point line as they knocked down six shots from beyond the arc.
The Cougars had five players finish in double figures including
Hank Mathews who had a team high 14 points. Additionally,
Adam Mennemeyer and
Preston Whitfield both finished with 13 points,
Nic Reynolds had 12 points, and
Jackson Dubinski rounded out the Cougars with double figures finishing with 11. Dubinski also had a game high eight assists while
Lucky Ogbomo finished with a game high 12 rebounds.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, November 17
th when they travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on Central Baptist (Ark.) College in their first AMC contest of the season. The game is set to being at 7 p.m.
