Henderson, Tenn. – Tonight the sixth ranked Columbia College men's basketball team traveled to Henderson, Tennessee, to take on Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in the AMC Game of the Week. The Cougars were able to continue their winning streak tonight as they defeated the Lions by a final score of 93-78. With the win tonight, Columbia College improves to 15-1 on the season while Freed-Hardeman drops to 9-6.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the first half knocking down three of their first four shots including a three pointer to take an early 7-4 lead over the Lions. They continued to play well as the half progressed and were able to extend their lead to 15 points before Freed-Hardeman was able to find their footing. The Lions responded with a 24-9 run of their own to cut the Cougars lead down to one with just under five minutes remaining in the half. However, Columbia College bounced back quickly in the final minutes of the first and closed the period out on a 7-2 run to take a 38-33 lead into halftime. The Cougars were led by
Jackson Dubinski who had six points in the half.
Columbia College came out in the second half and continued to shoot the ball well. They opened the half on a 13-4 run and were able to extend their lead to 51-37 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game. Freed-Hardeman battle back over the next few minutes and were able to cut the lead back down to six but that was as close as they would get as the Cougars closed out the Lions down the stretch and cruised to their ninth straight victory.
Columbia College was led by
Nic Reynolds who finished with a team high 23 points. In addition to Reynolds,
Preston Whitfield finished with 16 points,
Jackson Dubinski dropped in 13 points, and
Malik Ray had 11 points to round out the top performers for the Cougars.
Columbia College is back in action on Saturday, January 7
th when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on Williams Baptist (Ark.) University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to tip off at 3 p.m.
