Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – The fifth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back on the field this afternoon when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Missouri Baptist University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars, who are coming off a 3-0 victory over Park (Mo.) University on Monday, were able to improve to 15-1 on the season and 9-1 in conference play after defeating the Spartans by a final score of 1-0.
In the first half of the game, the Spartans came out and controlled the possession early as they recorded three shots in the first 15 minutes of the game including two shots on goal. The Cougars settled in as the half progressed and created several scoring chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Columbia College was finally able to get on the board with just under a minute to play the period when Laurie Frew found Molly Klein who was able to knock it past the Spartans keeper for her seventh goal of the season.
The Cougars were able to carry over their momentum from the end of the first half into the second and dominated the possession early. Despite not being able to add to their lead in the second half they were able to keep the Spartans out of the back of the net and solidified their 15th win of the season with a 1-0 victory.
Madison Boyken and Erin Jones split time in goal for Columbia College this afternoon as the two combined for four saves in the Cougars 13th shutout of the season.
Columbia College is back in action on Tuesday, October 24th when they travel to Conway, Arkansas, to take on Central Baptist (Ark.) College in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
