Eighth Ranked Cougars Defeat Mustangs 5-0

Conway, Ark. – The Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Conway, Arkansas, to take on the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs in an AMC matchup. The Cougars, who were victorious over Missouri Baptist by a final score of 1-0 in their last game, were able to improve to 16-1 on the season and 10-1 in conference play after defeating the Mustangs by a final score of 5-0.

Prior to the game, the NAIA national office announced the eighth NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the 2017 season. Columbia College, who ranked ninth in the last poll, moved up one spot to eighth after winning their only match since the last poll was released.

The Cougars came out in the first half and took it to the Mustangs from the opening whistle. They were able to score just eight minutes into the game when Tiffany Weaver found Molly Klein for her eighth goal of the season. Columbia College was able to add four more goals in the half including a second from Klein (9) and tallies from Tiffany Weaver (5), Laurie Frew (20), and Hannah Crone (2) to take a 5-0 lead into the locker room. The Cougars outshot the Mustangs 25-0 in the half and 15 shots on target.

The Cougars continued to control the game in the second half and created several scoring opportunities. They accumulated 18 shots in the period including seven shots on target but were unable to capitalize as the Mustangs keeper made seven saves in the half. Despite not being able to find the back of the net, Columbia played solid defense and did not allow the Mustangs a single shot in the game.

Madison Boyken was in goal for the Cougars recording her second solo shutout of the season.

The Cougars are back in action when they play host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in their final game of the regular season. This game will serve as senior day for Columbia College and the seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the program prior to the game. The match is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
