Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the sixth ranked Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to take on Harris-Stowe State University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars defeated the Hornets by a final score of 76-64 to improve to 14-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
To start the game each team came out exchanging baskets. The game was tied 12-12 after the first seven minutes of play. The Cougars were able to use a 5-0 run to take the lead 17-12. However, the Hornets would go on a 5-0 run of their own to tie it right back at 17 midway through the half. The game remained tight as the half progressed. Harris-Stowe was pressuring the Cougars looking for some turnovers, but Columbia handled the pressure with poise. With under two minutes to go in the half, Columbia went on a 5-0 run to take a 37-31 lead heading into the halftime break. The Cougars shot 59 percent from the field in the half.
The Cougars carried their momentum into the start of the second half, but as the half continued the Hornets began cutting into the Columbia lead. Midway through the half, the Hornets tied the game at 53. Columbia went on a 6-0 run to take back their lead 59-53, but Harris-Stowe wasted no time as they cut the lead right back to one at 59-58 with just under nine minutes to play. As the contest continued to be a game of runs, Columbia pushed their lead to 67-58 with about five and a half to play. The Hornets kept fighting, but would not be able to overcome Columbia as they locked in a 76-64 victory to end 2017.
Columbia was led by Nathan Biggs who recorded 17 points. In addition, Nic Reynolds (13), Adam Mennemeyer (11), and Jackson Dubinski (10) all tallied double digit points. Dubinski also dished out five assists, while Lucky Ogbomo grabbed a game high 11 rebounds in the contest.
Columbia College is back in action on Tuesday, January 2nd when they travel to Parkville, Missouri to take on Parkville (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
