Box Score Olathe, Kan. – This afternoon the ninth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Olathe, Kansas, to take on MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the 25
th ranked Pioneers by a final score of 2-0 and improved to 3-0 on the season.
In the first half of the game, both sides came out and had a tough time getting anything going offensively. The Cougars were able to apply pressure to the Pioneers back line as the half progressed but ultimately the score remained tied at zero heading into the halftime break. Columbia College outshot MidAmerica Nazarene 5-1 in the period and had three shots on goal.
The Cougars came out in the second half and continued to apply heavy pressure to the Pioneers. They were able to get off four shots in the first 11 minutes of the half but were unable to finish as the MidAmerica Nazarene keeper made several big saves. However, Columbia College was finally able to take a 1-0 lead with 32 minutes remaining in the game when
Kelsey Mirts beat the Pioneers keeper for her fourth goal of the season. Mirts was then added a second goal for the Cougars with just under a minute left in the game to solidify the 2-0 victory.
Madison Boyken and
Erin Jones split time in goal for Columbia College as the two combined for three saves in their second shutout of the season.
The Cougars return to the field on Saturday, September 2
nd when they host Missouri Valley College in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. on R. Marvin Owens Field.
