Box Score Batesville, Ark. – This afternoon the 21st ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Scots by a final score of 2-0 and improved to 6-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
In the first half of the match, both sides came out and exchanged scoring opportunities early as each keeper was forced to make two saves in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Cougars controlled the tempo for most of the half but were unable to capitalize on their chances as the score remained 0-0 heading into the halftime break. Columbia College outshot the Scots 12-7 in the half with each team putting four shots on target.
The Cougars came out in the second half and were able to find the back of the net for the first goal of the game just five minutes into the period as Lucy Kingsley was able to finish off a corner kick from Molly Klein for her third goal of the season to give Columbia a 1-0 lead. The Cougars were back at it again just 15 minutes later after earning a foul inside the Scots box. Molly Klein took the penalty for the Cougars and was able to beat the keeper to the left side of the goal to put Columbia up 2-0 with her eighth tally of the year. The Scots tried to get back into the game but had a tough time getting anything going as the half progressed and the Cougars were able to solidify their fourth win in conference play.
Kate Marshall (4-1) was in goal today for Columbia, making five saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Friday, September 28th when they play host to the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 4:30 p.m. on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
