Salina, Kan. – The 12
th ranked Cougar volleyball team was back in action today when they continued play in the 2019 Kansas Wesleyan University Classic. The Cougars finished the weekend strong, sweeping host Kansas Wesleyan University 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-16). Columbia is now 10-2 on the season.
The Cougars continued their momentum from day one of the classic as they racked up a total of 39 kills for a hitting percentage of 0.229 which outperformed the Coyotes 26 kills and 0.063 hitting percentage. The Cougar defense went to work at the net as they tallied three more team blocks than the Coyotes for a total of nine blocks. In addition, the Cougar offense added eight service aces to secure the win.
Columbia was led by
Kiersten Anderson who tallied 13 kills and three blocks and
Luisa Ferreira who had 28 assists and 10 digs.
Shelby Meyer also had 10 digs in the match and both
Bailee Ulery and
Erika Miller added three blocks apiece.
Columbia returns to the court on Tuesday, September 17 when they travel to Belleville, Illinois to open up conference play against the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
