Batesville, Ark. - The Cougar women's soccer team picked up a 5-0 shutout win over Lyon (Ark.) College this afternoon, marking their eighth consecutive American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory. With the win, Columbia improves to 8-4-1 overall on the season and 8-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) while the Scots drop to 7-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.
Junior
Kelly Ross got the scoring started with her fifth goal of the season in the 14
th minute of play to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead over the Scots. She would add her second goal of the match in the 27
th minute, after connecting with
Laurie Frew for a 2-0 Columbia lead. Senior
Tori Magaletta followed with her fourth goal of the season in the 31
st minute. Columbia totaled 16 shots in the first 45 minutes, but was unable to add to their lead heading into the second half.
Freshman
Jordan Poire launched her 4
th goal of the year 14 minutes into the second half to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead. Ross assisted on the goal. Ross logged her third goal for her first hat trick of the season when she found the back of the net in the 79
th minute off an assist by
Tiffany Weaver to conclude the scoring for the Cougars.
Columbia outshot Lyon 28-7 for the game, with the Cougars converting 5 of 14 shots on goal.
Flavia Rosado posted five saves on the afternoon and earned the shutout win in goal, Columbia's sixth of the season.
The Cougars return to the field Wednesday, October 22 when they travel to Parkville, Mo. to face AMC foes, Park University. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.
