Box Score Hannibal, Mo. - The Cougar women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-0 shutout victory on the road against American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Hannibal-LaGrange University this afternoon. Columbia improves to 14-3 overall and ends with a perfect 12-0 record in league play with the win.
Katelyn Palmer notched her eighth goal of the season 25 minutes into the game to put the Cougars on the board. Columbia posted 19 shots in the first 45 minutes, but was unable to add to their lead heading into the halftime break as the goalkeeper, Tori Ditter stopped eight of the Cougar's nine shots-on-goal.
The second score came with two minutes left to play as
Molly Burke found the net after connecting with
Kelli Westhues and Palmer. The Cougars were able to hold the Trojans scoreless over the final minutes to pick up their eighth straight victory.
The Cougars outshot the Trojans 34-3 for the game.
Flavia Rosado (14-3) earned the win in goal for Columbia with two saves. Ditter saved 16 of the Cougar's 18 shots-on-goal in the contest.
This marks the third straight season the Cougars have taken the regular season crown. In 2015 Columbia allowed just 1 goal in conference play, coming on a penalty kick last week against Missouri Baptist. On the flip side, the Cougars have netted 64 goals in league play. Cougar sophomores
Laurie Frew and
Tiffany Weaver have totaled 26 of those goals.
The AMC Tournament quarterfinals will kick off on Friday, November 6
th. Columbia, the No. 1 seed, will host tournament play at R. Marvin Owens Field. With the regular season wrapping up the Cougars will wait for all the AMC games to be played before finding out whom they will play.
