st-ranked Cougar women's soccer team fell to 10
th-ranked Vanguard University by a score of 4-1 today in the opening round of the 2015 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. The loss marks the end of the season for Columbia, who finishes the year with a record of 18-4. The Lions advance to the second round of the National Tournament with the victory.
The Lions drew first blood three minutes into the game and extended their lead to two goals seven minutes later. Sophomore
Tiffany Weaver cut the Lions lead in half in the 18
th minute of play, but VU extended their lead back out in the 26
th minute on a goal by Rayven Hernandez.
The second half remained quiet until Vanguard's Nicole Dunn added a fourth tally with just under four minutes remaining to put the game away.
VU outshot Columbia 20-6 for the game. Junior goalkeeper,
Flavia Rosado (18-4) posted eight saves.
