Cougars Win Sixth Straight

Box Score Batesville, Ark. – This afternoon the sixth ranked Columbia College men's basketball team traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on Lyon College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to pick up their sixth win in a row and their second win in conference play with a 58-46 win over the Scots to stay undefeated on the season.

The first half started out slowly as both team struggled to find the basket for the first 10 minutes of the game. The Cougars found themselves down 11-12 with seven minutes remaining in the first half when their offense was finally able to come alive. John Meyer sparked the turnaround for Columbia College after hitting a jump shot that sent the Cougars on a 16-1 run to close out the half. Preston Whitfield was the leading scorer for Columbia College in the first half dropping in six points including a three pointer.

The Cougars came out in the second half holding on to a 27-13 lead. Nic Reynolds got Columbia College going in the second half knocking down a three pointer to take a 17 point lead in the game. The Scots battled back and cut the lead down to six but that was as close as they would get as the Cougars used a 19-5 run midway through the second half to break the game wide open. They played swarming defense in the game forcing the Scots to turn the ball over 16 times which helped the Cougars solidify their second conference victory of the season.

Columbia College had two players finish in double figures including Jackson Dubinski, who finished with 15 points, and Nic Reynolds, who dropped in 12 points. Malik Ray had another great game on the boards tonight bringing down 10 out of the 37 total rebounds from the Cougars.

The Cougars are back in action next weekend when they host the 2016 Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic. They will take on third ranked William Penn (Iowa) University on Friday, November 25th at 7:30 p.m. and then face Avila (Mo.) University on Saturday, November 26th at 3 p.m.
