Mathews and Holloway Lead Cougars Over STLCOP

Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – This afternoon the third ranked Columbia College men's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to bounce back after their loss on Thursday at Harris-Stowe State University and defeated the Eutectics by a final score of 106-55 to improve to 21-2 on the season.

Columbia College got off to a quick start in the first half thanks to Hank Mathews who knocked down three of his first four shots, including two shots from beyond the arc, for eight points to help give the Cougars an early 12-6 lead in the game. They played tough defense in the half and forced the Eutectics to turn the ball over seven times while they continued to grow their lead. St. Louis College of Pharmacy did their best to cut into the deficit before the halftime break but were unable to do so as they found themselves trailing 50-28 at the end of the half.

Columbia College came out in the second half and moved the ball well on the offensive end. They went on a 16-5 run to start the half and pushed their lead to 68-38 midway through the period. St. Louis College of Pharmacy tried desperately to get back into the game but were unable to take care of the ball as the Cougars forced several turnovers down the final stretch of the contest. Columbia College took advantage of the Eutectics miscues and ended the game on a 17-9 run as they cruised to their 14th conference win of the season.
