Box Score Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's soccer team defeated Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University by a score of 9-0 on Friday night in the first round of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Postseason Tournament. Columbia, the league's regular season champion and No. 1 seed in the tournament, improves to 14-2-1 overall on the year with their NAIA-leading 12
th shutout of the 2013 campaign.
MacKenzie Knepper got the scoring started for the Cougars with her 15
th goal of the season less than three minutes into the first half. In the ninth minute of play,
Tori Magaletta headed in a perfectly played corner kick from
Stephanie Hale to give Columbia an early 2-0 lead.
Meg Goddard and
Kelly Ross would each add a goal over the remainder of the opening period as the Cougars took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. Columbia tacked on another score in the 51
st minute as Hale converted a penalty kick for a 5-0 Columbia advantage. Ross would her second goal of the contest just five minutes later and
Rylee Bruhn followed with another goal in the 58
th minute.
Taylor Goddard made it 8-0 in the 66
th minute and Ross completed her first hat trick of the year just two minutes later as the Cougars cruised to the shutout victory from there.
Erica Ramirez and
Flavia Rosado combined on the shutout in goal as the Columbia defense limited the Lions to just one shot on the night.
Prior to game time, members of the 2013 AMC All-Academic team were announced. The Cougars placed 10 players on the squad, which included

Columbia will advance to the AMC Tournament Semifinals on Monday, November 11
