Cougars Tame the Lions with a Shutout Victory

Box Score Columbia, Mo. – The Cougar women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University tonight. The lady Lions five-match unbeaten streak comes to an end as they fall to 4-2-1 on the season. Columbia improves to 1-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

Columbia was unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play despite the Cougars' 12 shots taken. Kelly Ross broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 71st minute. The Cougars continued to apply pressure on the offensive end during the final period, when Kelly Ross struck the ball that would ricochet off the defender for a goal in the 75th minute for a 2-0 Columbia advantage. The Cougars would attack again in the 79th minute when sophomore midfielder Katelyn Palmer found the back of the net to advance the Cougars to a 3-0 lead. Columbia would hold on over the final minutes to complete the shutout and pick up their first victory of the season.

Columbia finished the match with a 32-3 shot advantage, which included 16 shots on goal. Flavia Rosado logged two saves to earn the shutout win in goal.

The Cougars will return home to host AMC foe Harris-Stowe State University on Friday, September 26th. The game is set for a 4:30 p.m. start at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium.
