Box Score Walnut Ridge, Ark. – This morning the 13
th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team traveled to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on Williams Baptist (Ark.) University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were looking to get back on track after their first defeat of the season on Wednesday and they were able to do just that. Columbia College picked up their sixth win in AMC play in a 7-0 win over the Eagles and improve to 9-1-2 on the season.
The Cougars came out in the first half and controlled the tempo early. They were able to take the lead twelve minutes into the game when
Katelyn Palmer found
Kelsey Mirts off a corner kick who headed the ball into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season. Columbia College continued to apply pressure to the Eagles and were able to pick up a second goal just a few minutes later when
Laurie Frew beat the Eagles keeper off of a pass from
Kelsey Mirts for her eighth goal this season. The Cougars outshot the Eagles 18-1 in the half and had eight corner kicks.
The second half was all Columbia College as they were able to find the back of the net five times.
Lucy Kingsley started off the scoring for the Cougars six minutes into the half when she headed in a rebound off a shot from
Molly Klein for her third goal this season. Mirts picked up her second goal of the game off another corner kick from
Katelyn Palmer just 13 minutes later to put the Cougars ahead 4-0.
Katie Cook added to Columbia Colleges tally with less than 20 minutes left in the game when she was able to get a head on a cross from
Kelsey Mirts for her third goal this season.
Lucy Kingsley added her second goal of the game with less than 15 minutes left to play after
Katie Cook played a cross into the Eagles box. Kingsley was able to get a head on the pass and beat the Williams Baptist University keeper to put the Cougars ahead 6-0.
Molly Klein finished off the scoring for Columbia College in the final minutes of the match for her sixth goal this season.
Flavia Rosado and
Madison Boyken split time in goal tonight as both goalies contributed to the shutout victory recording one save between the two of them. The shutout marks the ninth this season for Columbia College.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, October 8
th when they take on Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field in Columbia.
