The Columbia College cross country teams wrapped up their season today after competing at the NAIA National Championships. After winning the American Midwest Conference (AMC) championship, the entire Cougar men's team qualified to race today along with
Emily Shultz who qualified after placing second overall at the conference meet for the women.
In a competitive men's 8K race, the Cougars placed 21
st out of 36 teams. Freshman
Tyler Lawson finished first for Columbia coming in 76
th place out of 326 runners with a time of 26:01. Junior
Tommy Skosky finished next for the squad in 88
th place at 26:10 while sophomore
Seth Schenck finished in 108
th place with a time of 26:19. Seniors
Michael McCulloch (26:26) and
Devin Sander (27:04) rounded out the scoring for the Cougars. Freshman
Alex Slater (27:32) also competed for Columbia.
Shultz placed 115
th out of 321 runners in the women's 5K with a time of 19:07.
The NAIA announced Friday that 420 cross country student-athletes have been named 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) leads all schools with 11 athletes on the list.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
Cape and McCulloch were named Scholar-Athletes on the men's side while
Julia Montgomery and
Lydie van Deursen earned the honor on the women's side.
Today's meet wrapped up the 2015 cross country season as the Cougars made their fourth straight appearance at the national championships.
